I received a call today from Nancy Donavan-Watkins (a Cursillista from several years ago) requesting urgent prayers.  Nancy’s grandson, Aaron Donavan, has a best friend who was in a horrible auto accident in Lakewood, Ohio (suburb of Cleveland) and is in extreme critical condition with brain damage.  The incredible part of Nancy’s request is that Aaron (her grandson) called her and asked her to pray for his friend, T.J. Hart.  So, Aaron is reaching out to his grandmother for prayers. That’s the reason why I’m asking for your prayers.

Michael Lynch from Ireland with an update! Hallelujah, Hallelujah, praise the Lord, Hallelujah!! My application was successful and I am accepted for the priesthood. Seminary begins on Sunday August 26th with a full month of no contact with the outside word. Emotionally I’m relieved, excited and a little anxious. Thank you for your prayers. I really felt them kick in on the day of my psychological testing at around 7pm when I was exhausted and hungry. YOU guys kept me going for another 2 hours after that. The psychological testing ran from 9am until 9pm on Saturday July 21st. I was shattered for two days afterwards.

My next hurdle is to stay in the Seminary. I suffer a mental illness called bipolar disorder (or the old name called manic-depression) for which now I am on medication. The Wikipedia web site gives a fairly good account of what it is. Basically it consists of low moods and high moods. The low moods take the form of depression, which I am very familiar with. The high moods take the form of manic, or mania which I am not as familiar with. My main concern that the spiritual intensity of seminary will trigger a manic episode and that would be the end of my spiritual adventure. I know that I such let go and let God or as Mother Teresa said that I should be in the business of trying and let the business of success to God. Still, it won’t hurt if you continue to pray for me.

In my written application for the priesthood I put down my involvementwith Cursillo in Atlanta. When I went to do my interview the priest that was interviewing me told me about the Cursillo movement in Cork and he gave me the telephone number of the priest that is involved. So it was a complete fluke how I learned about it!! Amazing isn’t it? Basically the movement has been here for the last two years and has been struggling to get off the ground. The biggest problem is getting candidates.

The next Cursillo weekend will be held on Oct 18th to Oct 21st. I’m not sure if I will be giving a talk or will be involved at all since I’ll be in seminary and I mightn’t be able to take time off. I know that the names of the talks are the same but I don’t know yet if there is any difference in the content. I’ll let you know when I find out who you can direct the palanca too if you so wish to send some.

I have learned that Jim Gray's mother, Catherine Gray, passed away on Wednesday at the age of 79 after being ill for several weeks. Jim just returned home from Brooklyn, NY on Monday after visiting with her for a couple weeks! The funeral will be held in Brooklyn on Monday (July 30th).
Please keep Jim & Robin, Jim's two sisters and the Gray family in your prayers.

All is well here in Raleigh. Jodi and I have slowly begun to insert ourselves more fully into the Cursillo movement here. It has been a tough transition for us since we miss the close loving Cusillio community we had in Atlanta. Both of us are grouping and we attend Ultreya on a regular basis. We took a break from leader school for a short time but went back seven months ago. It did not take long for Jodi and I to speak up and begin to have an impact on our environment. The movement here has not had a Secretariat in place for several years and it has had an impact on the movement here. Secretariat business was being conducted in conjunction with leader school. During one session someone apologized for having to conduct Secretariat business at SOL so I asked what is preventing us from reforming the Secretariat. This prompted a special meeting to discuss that very issue and I was nominated to be the Lay Director for the Diocese of Raleigh. I have accepted the nomination and my name has been forwarded to Bishop Burbidge for approval. I ask all our brothers and sisters in the Atlanta movement to pray for us while we re-energize and renew Cursillio in Raleigh.

My mom passed this afternoon at 1:25 pm CST. I was in flight and looking out at Lake Michigan at about that time. My sister, brothers, an aunt and an uncle were here at that time. We are together now as family. The funeral is slated for 10 on Friday, visitation the evening before at Burkhart Einer (sp?) funeral home in Sandwich Illinois. She lived next door to a retired priest. He stopped over tonight and mentioned that he'd like to concelebrate her funeral with her parish priest. So mom is in very good hands. Peter N. Fedyk died died suddenly on Wednesday morning, May 30, 2007. Pete worked a number of weekends, some even recently. One story I heard was that he once brought a joke book out for a weekend! Let's pray for his soul and family. He is survived by his wife, Kathleen, two sons, Nicholas and Matthew and his daughter Erika. He was a parishioner of St. Marguerite D'Youville Catholic Church and is an active member of the St. Vincent DePaul Society. Prayers are urgently needed for a member of the St. Pius X Ultreya. Tony Cumberworth is gravely ill in a hospital in Japan. He and his wife, Nancy, are there visiting their son and family. Tony contracted pneumonia and other infections and they all infected his heart. As of yesterday, Tony was in a coma and was clinging to life. So, we need to lift up our prayers for Tony, Nancy and their family along with all the medical team caring for Tony. May God’s healing blessings be showered upon Tony during this time.

I received a call from a very weak Craig Williams today. Craig had a relapse after his recent hernia surgery and was admitted to the VA Hospital this morning. For those that may not know his situation, here is a brief summary.
Craig underwent multiple hernia surgery four weeks ago. He had so many hernia related obtrusions that they filleted him from one side of his abdomen to the other. Over 200 staples were used in his closure. About a week ago, Craig was having some discomfort and drainage. After fighting with the VA, they had him come in for some test and found multiple pockets of infections where the meshing was sewn in. He was admitted into the hospital this morning and underwent surgery to remove the infected meshing and irrigate his wounds. He sounded weak and tired (as can be expected after his ordeal) and wanted to ask for our prayers. So, please keep Craig in your prayers this week and I will keep you all updated on his progress.
