What is Cursillo?
Cursillo (pronounced kur-SEE-yo) is a movement within the Catholic Church that helps laypeople discover the fullness of their faith and live it out with renewed purpose and joy. Rooted in friendship and supported by community, Cursillo invites you into a deeper relationship with Christ and a more vibrant connection to your parish, your family, and your world.
A Brief History

From Pilgrimage to Purpose

The Cursillo Movement began in Spain in the 1940s, originally as a way to prepare pilgrims for the journey to Santiago de Compostela. Over time, it became clear that the real journey was one of the heart - a call to live out the Gospel in everyday life. Since then, Cursillo has spread to more than 60 countries and is active in dioceses around the world, including right here in the Archdiocese of Atlanta. Cursillos have been held in Atlanta since 1965.

“The Cursillo method has proven to be a powerful instrument of personal and communal renewal.”
Pope St. John Paul II
The Cursillo Weekend
Three Days That Change Everything

The Cursillo experience begins with a three-day retreat. During this time, participants—called candidates—hear a series of short, inspiring talks from clergy and lay people. These talks focus on grace, discipleship, community, and action. The weekend includes Mass, prayer, reflection, laughter, music, and the gift of new friendships rooted in Christ.

It’s not a silent retreat or a theology course. It’s a joyful encounter with Christ and with others seeking the same.

The weekend is held at the Monastery of the Holy Spirit in Conyers, Ga. It begins Thursday evening at 7:00pm and concludes late Sunday afternoon.

Living the Fourth Day
Where the Real Journey Begins

Cursillo doesn’t end on Sunday afternoon. In fact, that’s where it begins. We call everything after the weekend your Fourth Day - a lifelong journey of growing in faith, encouraging one another, and living as a Christian witness in the world.

Through small Group Reunions and larger community gatherings called Ultreyas, Cursillistas support one another in prayer, friendship, and apostolic action.
Who Is Cursillo for?
Everyone Seeking More

Cursillo is open to practicing Catholic men and women who are looking to:

Deepen their relationship with Christ
Find support in Christian community
Live out their faith more intentionally

Whether you’re active in your parish or just beginning to seek, you are welcome here.
